How to Throw the Perfect New Year’s Eve House Party!

1. Choose a Colour Scheme.
If you have a good colour scheme, pretty much everything you do decor-wise will look thought out and pulled together! Stick to two or three colours- metallics are always a hit on NYE- Black, white and Gold always looks stunning.

These gold heart garlands would be great on the walls or over tables, either DIY your own using glitter card from your local craft shop, or you can buy these ready made ones very cheaply from etsy

2. Balloons

You are never too old for balloons! Choose balloons that will compliment your colour scheme, and fill with helium to decorate the ceiling- this is perfect if you are lucky enough to have a high ceiling! Use gold, silver or white curling ribbon for the strings. You can helium in small cans to take home from your local hobbycraft store if you are in the UK.

3. Have a Drinks Table.
Rather than letting the drinks pile up in the kitchen, allocate a specific table for drinks and glasses- this will give your guests somewhere to leave their bottles if they bring some, and also stop people needing to rummage through your cupboards when they need a glass or something. Things to remember: Glasses, mixers, ice, straws and napkins!
Always use a tablecloth- if you don’t have one you can buy white tablecloths from most large supermarkets in the party supplies section, and don’t forget to decorate the table, you could use helium balloons or a cute backdrop behind the table- here are a few ideas I love that would be easy to DIY…

4. Food table.

You don’t need to provide a feast, but its always nice to have some nibbles around if people are drinking- think cupcakes, sweets, oreos, smarties and of course crisps and nuts for people to pick at.

5. Clocks
Make sure you have at least one clock visible in the main room of the party for the countdown- You don’t want to miss it!! If you have a few clocks, you could cluster them together and make a feature of it! If you are worried people will be too drunk and miss the countdown, set a few alarms for 5 minutes to midnight 🙂
